가면의 탈을 쓰고 
池城貞志

우리 웃고 살지만 거짓을 숨기기 위한 가면을 쓰고,
우리 서로 얼굴을 가리고 눈을 가리고,
서로들 속임수에 평생 빚을 지게 되고
찢어지고 피 흘리는 마음조차 미소를 짓는,
헤아릴 수 없는 수많은 미묘함을 지닌 입 

세상이 왜 이리 지혜롭지 못해야 하는지?
서로에게 눈물 흘리고 한숨짓게 하는지?
아니, 세상이 우릴 보고 있는 한
우리는 영원히 가면을 쓰고 살아야만 한다

오 위대한 그리스도여, 미소 속에 숨겨진 우리의 외침
고통받는 영혼들로부터 일어나십시오
미소 띤 노래를 하고 있지만 진흙으로 사악하다
우리가 걷고 있는 끝도 없는 길 가면서
혼탁한 세상 말고 행복한 세상을 꿈꾸게 하라

 

We Wear The Mask

We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask.

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
