이 방에서 저 방으로,
우리는 함께 살고 있는 집에서 숨바꼭질을 한다.
내 심장아 너는 걱정할 것 없어
내 마음아 너는 꼭 찾고 말터이니
이번에는 그녀 자신! 그가 숨기고 있는 문제가 아니다.
지금 당장 커튼과 소파에서 나는 향수,
그 향수를 닦았을 때
처마 끝에 매달린 꽃장식이 새롭게 피어났다.
맞은편 거울에서
모자의 깃털 장식이 반짝이고 있었다.

하지만 하루가 저물어가면서
문은 또 다른 문으로 이어진다
나도 또 운세를 시험해본다
넓은 집 가장자리에서 가운데로 범위를 좁혀간다
그래도 똑같다. 그녀는 이미 나간 뒤이다
하루 종일 찾는데만 몰두한들 무슨 소용 있으랴
너도 알겠지만 해는 저물고,
탐험할 수 있는 방은 멀리까지 이어져있고
확인해야 할 옷장들,
있고 싶은 방은, 다락방은 헤아릴 수 조차 없다

Left in the curtain, the couch's perfume!
As she brushed it, the cornice-wreath blossomed anew:
Yon looking-glass gleamed at the wave of her feather.

Yet the day wears,
And door succeeds door;
I try the fresh fortune—
Range the wide house from the wing to the centre.
Still the same chance! she goes out as I enter.
Spend my whole day in the quest,—who cares?
But 'tis twilight, you see,—with such suites to explore,
